Hi ron,

I believe my triples were the one that paul was talking about as we finished at 3 playing bert bowyer and co (enough said). However i believe that our players should be free to choose the rules they play. I have been playing since i was 13 which is 8 years now and I have learnt both rules, i much prefer old rules mainly because the people who play in that league are much more up for a beer and a laugh than in wednesday league where it is so serious. At the end of the day it is about having fun and a laugh with your mates. there is a reason why we are one of the biggest leagues in the country and this is due to democracy in the league (us still having old rules) and a great fun league to play in with options for everyone. If they want world rules then players will choose world rules, it is not about whether we are behind in times or not it about everyone having a fun night out. If people wanted to learn the world rules then they would and that has surely been shown with the new teams coming from the independant into the world rules.
David (mitchells on thursday in division 4 and xtc on wednesday league)

Thanks for the email David.
You agree that the Triples match you played in with Paul Plant against the Woodman was unnecessarily long and drawn out due to the old rules. Then in the next breath you say you prefer the old rules, make your mind up for goodness sake.
You state (" i much prefer old rules mainly because the people who play in that league are much more up for a beer and a laugh")
To answer that I would say start you own league to cover people who would rather play non existent rules, have a drink and a laugh (although sorry that's been tried before by other people and ended in a dismal failure).
There are people who play the game as a sport not just an excuse for a drink, some of these people are normally found running the leagues and trying hard to get results from captains and players who just want a drink and a laugh.

I have no respect for them as they have no respect for our committee or our sport, why should the committee carry a bunch of teams with no more ambition than to go out have fun, get plastered and create problems in the league administration.
David unlike you I do not know the E.P.A. rules to the full extent but I am going to learn and play this season.
I feel that as Chairman it is my and the committees duty to guide the P.P.A. in the correct direction and that is to have everyone playing to the one set of rules that have been in force for over 10 years.
That means playing to the rules stipulated by our governing body the E.P.A. this gives a chance to good players, youth players, lady players to further themselves if they wish.                                                               They have the opportunity to then play Inter-league / County / and at National levels.

Best of luck in your beer and laugh league.

Cheers
Ron

Subject: finals day.

to all committee members.

i would like to express my anger with you at the way your finals day was run.having reached the semi finals of the world rules doubles with my 15yr od son jack,i was looking forward to seeing him play in his first finals day.i recieved no notification from anybody as to when we were playing so along with the majority of players we turned up at rileys for 11.00am as this was the rumoured starting time.on arrival we were told both weds and thurs comps would all be played on one day instead of the two days which was stated in the start of season packs.our doubles semi was scheduled to start at 3.00pm so while jack practised i sat and watched a very boring thurs triples semi that went on and on and on.[i like the chairman can not undertand why these old rules are still being played]the rest of england moved on 10yrs ago and its about time peterborough did as well.anyway back to finals day 3.00pm s come and gone and our opponents have failed to turn up,were in the final.we were then told the other semi wouldnt be starting until 6.00pm at the earliest, reason being that one of the players involved was in five other comps.we started the final eventually at about 8.30 and after nine hard frames finally finished at 11.00pm [12hrs after arriving at rileys].we had won and i should have felt on top of the world[but i didnt]wonder why not.i would also like to spare a thought for our opponents in the final who had done 12hrs like us but had also played alot more pool than us[so unfair to them].as a commitee you must make sure the two sets of rules are kept apart on future finals days.one final word a big well done to lynn bridger who gave up her day off to cover for whoever should of been there and was still there with us at the end       yours in sport paul plant.

Hello Paul

Yes I heard about it and I must offer you and Jack my sincere apologies.
You know my attitude to things I feel we must do things right on this occasion it obviously wasn't.
I will bring this up at the next committee meeting and get it sorted.
I agree with your comments about Lynne she's been missed since she started earning an honest shilling.

Cheers
Ron

Subject: Re: Fw: World Rules Coaching

ron i read your comments,in the new pool book last night, and there bang out of order. basically you ave put down all the players still playing e.p.a rules,as basically crap players who when playin tatics or otherwise shudnt bother cos the rules r borin and r 4 dinosaurs. so let me remind you we have only been playin these rules 4 as long as i can remember, and these so called world rules are as u say tactical so must be borin in your words, and as 4 the deliberate foul which in your words again doesnt exist which if you pardon the expression is a load of bollocks,. anyway as you proberly gathered i,m very annoyed that you have chosen 2 ave a dig this way, think it5,s petty but one last thought i will be glad 2 beat u whether in your world rules or epa lk 4ward 2 your reply in this matter..

Hello Ian

The E.P.A. rules are the world rules, the rules being played in the P.P.A. Divisions do not exist any longer.
You say you have been playing these rules for as long as you can remember.
Well Ian the E.P.A. changed the rules over 10 years ago and I've been trying to get everyone in
Peterborough to play the same as the rest of the Country for that long.
Ian I'm not running down the players my criticism is that they're so behind the times.
When a youngster starts playing Pool with his Dad or who ever and his Dad is in the P.P.A. divisions
he is learning the wrong set of rules.
If he is a good player and wants to play at a higher level or anywhere else in the Country he'll have
to learn world rules it's a crazy situation.
If your team were to win the first division you would go forward to Yarmouth to play in the National
Champion of Champions where they play the E.P.A. world rules, it has tripped up every team we've sent there.
The players have the ability but when you don't know the rules you haven't much of a chance.
The Football league rules are the same from the Premier to the Sunday morning pub league so why should Pool be different.
The Darts rules are the same throughout the Country.

Thanks for your comments.

Ha Way the Lads !!!

Cheers
Ron
